What is Laser Hair Reduction?

Laser Hair Reduction is a process of hair removal which works by sending the light of a laser through the pigment present in the hair.

How does it work?

Laser light is passed through the hair and acts on the pigment present in the hair and the hair bulb. This laser light heats up the hair shaft and the hair root causing their destruction.

What is the procedure of Laser Hair Reduction?

a. The first step is to cover the eyes of the patient with protective eyewear. b. Then a patch test is done before the main laser session to assess the reactivity of patient’s skin towards the laser.c. After thorough cleaning and shaving, a cooling gel is applied over the treatment area. Laser shots are then passed through the skin using a handheld device. After the complete session,moisturizer and sunscreen are applied.

How many sessions are required?

Patients should not expect a completely hair free skin in just 1 sitting. Usually 6-8 sessions are required to achieve good results. Time interval between two sessions depends upon the speed of hair growth and it increasesprogressively with each session.

Why Laser Hair Reduction and not Laser Hair Removal?

Hair removal laser is only effective on the hair follicles during the active growth phase.Therefore, treatment needs to be repeated when these follicles re-enter into the active growth phase. With repeated sessions, some hair will remain but they are very fine and are hardly visible. Currently, no laser can claim to give you 100% hair free skin.
